About New Zealand Radiata Pine Wood:
Radiata Pine, better known as 'New Zealand Pine' is a softwood tree that contains many properties that make it very suitable for furniture and furniture making. It has a density equal to that of hardwoods like poplar, mahogany and oak. Its uniform density ensures a smooth and consistent texture and confers its excellent machining, painting and staining properties; there is almost no variation in color between pieces. Da Vinci's pine wood originates from forests maintained by managers that enforce environmental responsibility and the conservation of forest wildlife.

I would completely disagree with the one star review. The crib is sturdy and looks great. As for the mattress - of COURSE it is a non standard mattress size - hence the "mini"! This crib fits great in our limited space, and it works very nicely for our 20 month old daughter that we recently adopted from China. The lowest position is perfect for her to stand up and peer over but not get out, and the length is still comfortable for her.
The dark wood "Espresso" finish is especially nice and looks much more expensive than the price. Assembly took about a half an hour.
This crib is horrible. It is advertised to grow with your child but it won't last past the child's first birthday. Additionally, THIS CRIB TAKES A NON-STANDARD MATTRESS SIZE- a size that is impossible to find anywhere but this site. The wood is soft and easily damaged. A terriable purchase for the price!
This is an awesome crib. It is beautiful and practical. Unfortunately, I should have looked at ourselves better. We are tall people and my baby at 9 months is 30 in tall. He will outgrow it very soon. We'll have to convert it into a twin bed sooner than we thought. Do get the 50 coil mattress, though, and it will be very comfortable for baby. I personally love it.
This crib looks awesome in any nursery, especially if the nursery is small. It allows the other room pieces to fit perfectly and it gives the room a warm feeling. Baby is very comfortable on the matching 50 coil mattress and soon he will have his crib converted into a practical and (hopefully)long-lasting twin bed.
